Nostalgic Christmas cake toppers are a walk down memory lane
Although I didn’t start Kiwicakes until I was 30 years old - I often think perhaps I was destined to have a cake decorating shop. As a child not only did I love baking, cake decorating and chocolate making. I loved trawling through my grandparents pantry, smelling the essences, pinching a silver cachous from the jar to crunch on and I’d stare at the contents of the metal tin for hours that contained the Christmas cake decorations, candles and frills remembering birthdays and Christmas’ past. I even adored dragging out any recipe or decorating books that had photos – dreaming of my next birthday or Christmas cake and party food. Granny and Grandad would let me put play doh in a cup and make pretend cakes, returning everything to the tin when I was finishedOver the years some items from cakes given away or taken to a pot luck meant items from the tin have been lost. And as I get older I feel more strongly the need to replace items in the family tin perhaps for my grandkids to make play doh cakes (I don’t have any grandkids yet). Perhaps it’s as we age that we seek the sentimentality of nostalgia.
In the last few years I’ve chatted with many who feel this way and they’ve been thrilled to find at Kiwicakes we have a lovely range imported from the UK that have a distinctly traditional feel. I’d go so far as to say you won’t find a better range anywhere in NZ. We have a lovely range of cake frills, figurines and plaques that hark back to old school cake decorating.
We also have many items with a modern twist. Check out our range hereMy choice this year has been the miniature Christmas crackers with Merry Christmas plaque to add to the family tin
